Carter, Tuck take Commission seats in Cedartown

- By KEVIN MYRICK Editor

The numbers are in, and Cedartown has one new commissioner joining the board.

According to results tabulated by the Polk County Board of Elections, Cedartown will keep incumbent commissioner Dale Tuck on the board for another term.

Voters elected Andrew Carter to take the place of Gary Martin on the board as of Jan. 1, 2016.

Earlier this year, Martin chose not to run for a new term on the commission and will vacate his seat Dec. 31, 2015.

Both the seats on the city commis- sion are at-large positions.

Carter led the vote in the Nov. 3 elections with 33 percent of the returns in his favor, or 243 total votes, followed by Tuck with 226 votes, or 31 percent of the total in the race.

The two other candidates on the ballot in contention for the seats were Patrick McNally and David Jameson. McNally came in third place with a tally of 145 votes in his favor or 20 percent of the total. Jameson came in last place with 104 votes, or 14 percent of the total.

Results are not final until certified by the Secretary of State’s office, according to elections director Karen Garmon.

Carter, who took the lead in early voting and absentee results and held it throughout the Nov. 3 race, said that he was excited for the oppor- tunity to join the board in January when he is sworn in.

“I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community,” Carter said following the announcement of election results. “Thanks to all those who voted for me and I look forward to serving the citizens of Cedartown.”

Tuck said she was again thankful for the support of the public for her candidacy.

“I’m just humbled that I still have enough people supporting the vision of that our city commission has for Cedartown. It was a small number of people who voted but I can live with that,” she said.

She added that she looked forward to working with Carter in the coming term.

“He is an excellent addition,” she said. “His heart is in the right place.”
