Symphony orchestra begins 2016 with special performance
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will begin 2016 with the perfect conclusion to the holiday season - the 25th anniversary of the 1990 American classic film Home Alone.
Conductor Constantine Kitsopolous and the Grady High School Chorus will perform the score in real-time to an HD viewing of the original movie on January 2 and 3.
Principal Cello Christopher Rex plays Korngold’s work Cello Concerto in C Major. The program is Strauss’ Die Fledermaus Overture, Wiener Blut, Korngold’s Straussiana and finally, Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 on January 7 and 9. On Friday, January 8, the Orchestra will continue its Casual Friday series with an hour-long performance featuring Korngold’s Cello Concerto and Brahms Symphony No. 3. The following week, Music Director Robert Spano leads the Orchestra in a performance of one of Shostakovich’s most haunting and powerful works, Symphony No. 14, and guest artist Simon Trpceski plays Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
