Symphony orchestra be­gins 2016 with spe­cial per­for­mance

The At­lanta Symphony Orchestra will be­gin 2016 with the per­fect con­clu­sion to the hol­i­day sea­son - the 25th an­niver­sary of the 1990 Amer­i­can clas­sic film Home Alone.

Con­duc­tor Con­stan­tine Kit­sopolous and the Grady High School Cho­rus will per­form the score in real-time to an HD view­ing of the orig­i­nal movie on Jan­uary 2 and 3.

Prin­ci­pal Cello Christophe­r Rex plays Korn­gold’s work Cello Con­certo in C Ma­jor. The pro­gram is Strauss’ Die Fle­d­er­maus Over­ture, Wiener Blut, Korn­gold’s Straus­siana and fi­nally, Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 on Jan­uary 7 and 9. On Fri­day, Jan­uary 8, the Orchestra will con­tinue its Ca­sual Fri­day se­ries with an hour-long per­for­mance fea­tur­ing Korn­gold’s Cello Con­certo and Brahms Symphony No. 3. The fol­low­ing week, Mu­sic Di­rec­tor Robert Spano leads the Orchestra in a per­for­mance of one of Shostakovi­ch’s most haunt­ing and pow­er­ful works, Symphony No. 14, and guest artist Si­mon Tr­pceski plays Rach­mani­nov’s Pi­ano Con­certo No. 2.
