The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) has announced the City of Rockmart has received a Safety Grant check totaling $5,129.80.

These funds will be used to purchase a High Visibility Outerwear for Public Works and the Rockmart Fire Department.

Steve Durden, deputy director of marketing, said this program allows Georgia cities to stretch budget dollars and provide a safer work environment for employees.

The GMA Safety and Liability Management Grant program was introduced in 2000 to provide a financial initiative to assist members in improving their employee safety and general public liability loss control efforts through training and the purchase of equipment or services.

Since the inception of the program over 130 cities have received grant money. These funds, totaling about $1.5 million, have been used to purchase bulletproof vests, training videos, confined space entry equipment, reflective safety vests, fire department turnout gear and police department invehicle video training.
