Tractor driver killed in weekend wreck, woman charged

- From Staff Reports

The investigation into the death of a tractor driver in Polk County continues according to coroner Tony Brazier following a roadway collision over the weekend.

Brazier said that Jerry Eugene Robinson, 59, of a Laurens Road address, was pronounced dead at Polk Medical Center Saturday at 5:14 p.m.

Robinson was carrying a hay bale down Bellview Road near the intersection with Pine Mountain Road when the driver of a Honda Accord traveling at “a high rate of speed struck the tractor and caused it to flip and overturn into the ditch,” Brazier said.

He said Robinson was ejected from the tractor and despite lifesaving efforts from bystanders on the scene and Redmond EMS personnel, he succumbed to blunt force injuries to the head and neck Saturday afternoon.

The driver of the Accord, Stacie Waddell Henson, 34, of 3974 Old Rockmart Road in Silver Creek, was jailed on charges by the Georgia State Patrol on felony homicide by vehicle in the first degree and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while license suspended or revoked, no insurance, and following too closely.

No bond has been set by superior court, according to Polk County Jail records.

Brazier said the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was on scene on Bellview Road for several hours Saturday.

Robinson’s body was transported to the Georgia Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy late Saturday, Brazier said.
