The Polk County Historical Society (PCHS) will present a Musical Production, “A Journey into the Musical Past” on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016.

The concert, a memorial to John Casey Thomas, will feature music from the last half of the 19th Century and will be performed at the Cedartown Civic Auditorium, located at the corner of East Ave. and Philpot St.

A wide variety of music will be featured. These will include selections performed by The Debonairs, The Cave Spring Male Chorus and The 8th Regiment Band. Headlining the event will be the Emmy winning Un-Reconstructed String Band.

Several local musicians perform with the 8th Regiment Band from Rome. This group is known for performances of music from the last 50 years of the 19th Century.

The Un-Reconstructed group specializes in music from the era of the War Between the States and Celtic selections.

Tickets will be available for $10.00 each at Bradford’s Drugs, Croker Hardware, Merle Norman, and the Rome Area Historical Museum, Chieftains Museum or PCHS members. They will also be on sale at the museum from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and from10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Musical selections will include “Deep River”, “Londonderry Air”, “I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair”, “Walk in Jerusalem Just Like John”, “No Tears in Heaven”, and more.

The musical will kickoff a campaign to secure funds for maintenance and handicap accessibility of the Hawks Children’s Library Building, 205 S. College Street in Cedartown. PCHS is housed in this historical structure.

Many residents of this area remember the J. Neil Reid Building as “their library” and those who value architecture know it is a treasure since Mr. Reid was one of the great southern architects of his time.
