Don Potsiadlo: ‘It is a hobby’
Don Potsiadlo of Rockmart is getting attention for his artwork or hobby of painting different characters for major holidays on the windows of a local business.
Potsiadlo is a volunteer and member of Anytime Fitness of Rockmart where he began his hobby after the center opened in 2011.
“In 2013, I noticed a wall that needed something because it looked empty,” he said.
Thereafter he began what would become a hobby that utilized training he completed some years in the past.
With each completed piece, he became more comfortable with people watching as he sits in a chair near the window where he paints a chosen image on the interior of the building. It can be seen by people who are passing and sometimes attract parents with young children who want a photo made in front of the drawing.
The paintings are usually begun before major holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Easter and Christmas. It traditionally takes 6 to 8 hours to complete each individual piece.
Potsiadlo paints freehand but admits he gets his ideas from a variety of sources. He favors using familiar characters that are recognized by people of all ages.
Currently, he is working on a new picture so that it will be completed before Feb. 14, 2016. During 2015, he used a dif- ferent character for the “day of love and remembering” others.
Although Don does not proclaim any artistic ability, others consider his work a gift to the community since his drawing is for all to view.
