Polk students compete, win in District Skills USA event
Students from Cedartown and Rockmart high schools competed and won in the Region 1 District Skills USA competition recently hosted by Georgia Northwestern Technical College.
Almost 400 standouts took part in the event held in Walker County, Ga.
“We couldn’t be more proud of the level of competition our schools have prepared these students for in the weeks to come,” said GNTC’s SkillsUSA Coordinator, Mike Meyer
GNTC also competes each year in the collegiate level of SkillsUSA on the state, and often on the national level.
Student qualifiers from across the Peach State will compete on the state level March 17-19. Competitions will be held at Atlanta’s Georgia International Conference Atlanta College, Georgia College.
Polk students, who qualified to compete from Region 1, which comprises most of Northwest Georgia, are:
Cabinet Making: Josh Puckett, Cedartown High
Carpentry: Logan Fincher, Cedartown High School
Collision Repair Technology: Dalton Yarbrough, Rockmart High School
Electrical Construction Wiring: Andrew Whitfield, Cedartown High School
First Aid/ CPR: Laura-Ashley Tillery, Cedartown High School
Masonry: Rodrigo Morales-Jiminez, Cedartown High School
