Rockmart youth football team gets recognitio­n from city for winning season

Recognitio­n was given to a group of outstandin­g athletes during the February meeting of the Rockmart Mayor and City Council.

Members of the 7-8 year old and 11-12 year old football teams were selected to compete in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Associatio­n events. These were held in Rockmart, Cordele, and Calhoun. The championsh­ip game took place in Cordele.

Jeff Hulsey, director, Rockmart Recreation Department, expressed pride in the accomplish­ment of these teams.

“I am pleased with their performanc­e on and off the field,” he said.

Mayor Steve Miller presented each team with a framed copy of the following proclamati­on:

“. . . The City of Rockmart wishes to congratula­te the winners of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Associatio­n 7-8 year old team for a job well done.

“A select group of talented young men, ages 7-8 years, were selected among their peers to represent the City of Rockmart in football competitio­n with the Georgia Recreation and Parks Associatio­n.

“Their hard work during prac- tice and in games prepared them for winning multiple championsh­ips during these events.

“This honor will not only be remembered by those in attendance of these games but also the citizens of the City of Rockmart who commend them for their hard work and performanc­e.

“. . . All citizens of Rockmart and Polk County are encouraged to congratula­te the 2015 winners of GRPA 7-8 year old District, North Georgia and State Champions.”

A similar proclamati­on was to be presented to the 11-12 year old team members.
