Rockmart youth football team gets recognition from city for winning season

Recognition was given to a group of outstanding athletes during the February meeting of the Rockmart Mayor and City Council.
Members of the 7-8 year old and 11-12 year old football teams were selected to compete in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association events. These were held in Rockmart, Cordele, and Calhoun. The championship game took place in Cordele.
Jeff Hulsey, director, Rockmart Recreation Department, expressed pride in the accomplishment of these teams.
“I am pleased with their performance on and off the field,” he said.
Mayor Steve Miller presented each team with a framed copy of the following proclamation:
“. . . The City of Rockmart wishes to congratulate the winners of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association 7-8 year old team for a job well done.
“A select group of talented young men, ages 7-8 years, were selected among their peers to represent the City of Rockmart in football competition with the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association.
“Their hard work during prac- tice and in games prepared them for winning multiple championships during these events.
“This honor will not only be remembered by those in attendance of these games but also the citizens of the City of Rockmart who commend them for their hard work and performance.
“. . . All citizens of Rockmart and Polk County are encouraged to congratulate the 2015 winners of GRPA 7-8 year old District, North Georgia and State Champions.”
A similar proclamation was to be presented to the 11-12 year old team members.
