City amends budget after increases in water, sewer revenue

- By KEVIN MYRICK Editor

The Cedartown Commission approved updated budget figures during their August meeting, adding revenue to both the city water and wastewater accounts.

City manager Bill Fann said the money – totaling $192,000 in extra revenue for the water department after going over projections made last year for how much the city would make in income off of water and sewer service.

Fann explained the budget required amending now so the budget numbers would even out at the end of the calendar year, when Cedartown will likely by then have a budget in place for 2017.

Originally, the water department was expected to take in $3.1 million in combined revenue from water and sewer services, and spend that to provide those services.

The additional revenue will give the city $119,750 in the general fund balance overall for the year thus far, and added an additional $72,250 for the utility fund as well.

Cedartown’s commissioners also approved a new annual lease agreement with the Boys and Girls Club for 2016-17. The city owns the building used by the club to support local youth in after school and summer programs, but pays rent for its use.

The city made no changes in their lease with the organization for 2016.

City commissioners also approved several local park use requests in coming weeks and months.

Among those are coming class reunions on Sept. 10 and Sept. 23, the annual domestic violence awareness event “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” on Oct. 28, a community outreach program by Hope Fellowship Church on Sept. 24, and Rev. Corey Smith’s annual evening revival services from Oct. 3 through Oct. 15 were all approved by the commission.

Annexation requests put forth previously to officially take in property purchased to eventually become part of the Northside Industrial Park in Cedartown for property purchased on Davis Road was also approved, as well as the city’s portion of the Memorandum of Understanding for Kimoto Tech’s tax abatement program for their new equipment purchase.

Agreements and leases get commission OK, local residents can go forward on park use for upcoming programs
