Best kept secret in polk county

-

To ALL residents of Polk County and surrounding areas,

On July 5, 2016, I had a total hip replacement. When I awoke, I was told my femur bone was splintered and had to be replaced. I had to keep my right leg straight, and could not walk for six weeks. On July 8, 2016 I went to Polk/Floyd Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Center called the West Wing. The very first morning, as soon as my door opened, I was greeted with a beautiful smile and a cheery ‘good morning.’ I was offered a cup of coffee and a newspaper. I had a long hot shower and was served breakfast.

Every week day I was taken to physical therapy. They are equipped with the personnel and equipment to treat different injuries. I had physical therapy at 8:30 a.m. After lunch I had occupational therapy. They are all very efficient and pleasant.

I was invited by the Activities Director to play games in the activities room. They have activities two times a day, 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on week days. I attended every week day. We played Bingo, Rummy Cue, Dominions, and Canasta; we were taught crafts, watched movies, and did art (painting and coloring). The soothing music in the background was just that, soothing. The pictures associated with the music were breathtaking.

I told my family the entire West Wing employees are all BEAUTIFUL, inside and out. Having a beautiful smile and beautiful personality has to be one of the requirements to work there.

I came home after 21 days and I still can not walk for three more weeks. But the employees at the West Wing turned an unexpected, devastating experience into a very pleasant part of my journey to recovery. Thank you, dear friends. Glenda J. Shiflett
