Competition cheer team comes away with first win

The Standard Journal - - LOCAL SPORTS -

The competition cheerleading season is now open and the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs have a first win of the season under their belts.

Head coach Brigitte Tillery reported that the team beat out rivals Cartersville and Heritage for the opening weekend win of the season, but that there are still issues as injuries plague the squad.

“The squad did a fantastic job opening up the season with a great routine, but there were a few problems and areas we need to improve on for the coming week at the University of West Georgia,” she said.

This competition is an important competition because UWG and Carrollton High School will be hosting the region competition in early November, Tillery said. A win here would keep the Lady Bulldogs ahead of the local competition, she said.

“This will allow the team to familiarize themselves with the coliseum and set up of the most important competition of the year before State, Region Competition,” Tillery said.

They compete at noon in Carrollton Saturday.

The 2016 Cedartown Competition Cheer squad got their first win of the season at Pepperell on Sept. 17.
