The Polk County Board of Tax Assessors meets the first Tuesday of each month, at 9 a.m. located in the Polk County Administra­tion Building-Suite F. Their coming meeting is set to be held on Oct. 4, 2016.

The Polk County Board of Education will meet for their October work session on Oct. 4 at 6 p.m., followed by their regular board meeting for the month on Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. in the board meeting room at the Polk School District’s Central Office in Cedartown on College Street. Polk County’s commission­ers will be holding committee meetings this week on Thursday, Sept. 29 starting at 9 a.m. with the Ordinance Review Committee, then later in the afternoon with the Public Safety committee at 4 p.m., and the Public Works committee at 5 p.m. Meetings will be held at the County administra­tion offices at 144 West Ave., Cedartown. On Saturday, Oct. 1, at 11:00 a.m. during the Downtown Cedartown Fall Festival, bring your dog and walk in the parade with the Cedartown Humane Society.

Parade starts at 10 a.m. (must line up at 9:30 on the corner of Marietta and Main St.) No retractabl­e leashes. Their annual dog show will be held after the parade. Categories include: largest dog, smallest dog, cutest costume and cutest trick. Cost is $5 entry fee per category, with prizes awarded in each.

All proceeds benefit The Cedartown Humane Society.

Polk County will hold a public meeting on October 20, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Polk County Emergency management and Fire Department headquarte­rs to review and discuss a draft of an update to the Polk County Hazard Mitigation Plan. This Plan is required by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000.

Note: We had a boo-boo with an item last week on the Sports page. The Atlanta Braves ended up sweeping the New York Mets as part of a seven game streak that was later snapped by Miami.
