Mrs. Gla­dys Carter James, age 96, of Cedar­town, passed away on Tues­day evening, Oct. 11, 2016 fol­low­ing an ex­tended ill­ness.

Mrs. James was born on Aug. 18, 1920 in Cedar­town to her par­ents, the late Wi­ley and An­nie Pearl Peace Carter.

She was also pre­ceded in death by her sis­ters, Frances Cook, Mil­dred Ash, Dot Ward, Janie Spann and Patsy Jo Allen Evers­man. Ad­di­tion­ally, Gla­dys was also pre­ceded in death by the love of her life, her hus­band, John Thomas James.

Mrs. James was re­tired from the Jockey Cor­po­ra­tion, after serv­ing for many years as a prod­uct In­spec­tor. She was de­voted and long­time mem­ber of the Pine Bower Bap­tist Church, be­ing a mem­ber there for over 71 years.

She was very proud of her church and had served as a Sun­day School Teacher and a G.A. Leader.

Mrs. James is sur­vived by her lov­ing fam­ily, her son and daugh­ter in law, Tommy and San­dra James; her daugh­ter and son in law, Maryse and Paul Dempsey; her grand­chil­dren, Lance James, Chris Gra­ham and Ali­cia Walker; her great grand­chil­dren, John Knox James, Myra Stephenson, Lehren, Brooke and Cam Walker; a num­ber of nieces, neph­ews and other rel­a­tives and friends also sur­vive.

Fu­neral ser­vices will be con­ducted on Fri­day af­ter­noon, Oct. 14, 2016 at 2 p.m. from the Pine Bower Bap­tist Church with her Pas­tor, the Rev. Roger Kiser of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low in the Polk Mem­ory Gar­dens. Flow­ers will ac­cepted or me­mo­rial con­tri­bu­tions can be made to: Pine Bower Bap­tist Church, 100 Pine Bower Road, Cedar­town, Ga., 30125.

The fol­low­ing Gen­tle­men were asked to serve as Pall­bear­ers: Phillip Spann, Ja­son Spann, Allen Casey, Ge­orge James, Paul Dempsey and Danny Ward.
