Rockmart rolls over Coosa for win
The Rockmart Yellow Jackets powered through the Coosa Eagles to come up with a big win ahead of their final home game of the season, and now control their destiny into the Class AA playoffs.
Rockmart also controls the second place spot in Region 7-AA football, just behind Pepperell with their only region loss to the Dragons, and ahead of Chattooga and Model. The Jackets beat the Indians earlier in the season, and finish up agains thte Blue Devils on Nov. 4.
Jackets head coach Biff Parson said the bounce back from their loss to Pepperell on Oct. 14 is what he expected of his team.
“I’m proud of how our guys responded after a tough loss and how they played,” he said. “Our guys are resilient, and they believe in what we’re doing and the standard that we’re setting at Rockmart.”
Rockmart’s (6-2, 4-1 region 7-AA) seven touchdowns came from a variety of Jackets, with D’Lante McClain putting up a 40-yard run to kick off the run of seven
unanswered touchdowns through four quarters. Zabrion Whatley added another 75-yard run to the end zone, followed not long after by Dylan Bailey connecting with Koby Adams for a 20-yard pass ending in a touchdown.
Blake Holloman put up a 44- yard run, and Morgan Sims a 4- yard run to end scoring on the ground for the night before halftime.
Bailey added another touchdown pass to his 125 total passing yards for the night by connecting again with Sims on a 19-yard TD.
Then Rockmart’s second string got some experience as Tyler Abram and Juke Boozer connected on a pass early in the fourth quarter for 11 yards and the Jackets’ final score of the night.
Overall, Rockmart put up 328 total yards of offense compared to 183 yards for Coosa.
The Eagles’ only touchdown came at the end of the game as Logan Pledger connected with Duke Black for a 19-yard touchdown as time expired with the running clock.
Rockmart is back at home next week for a game against Gordon Central.
