Cedartown stumped by Sandy Creek in final home game of season

yards in a pass between quarterback Bryant Walker and wide receiver Nathan Brown into the endzone within the first 15 seconds of the game.

It didn’t get much better for the Bulldogs (5-4, 2-3 Region 5-AAAA) following that opening play.

“We certainly weren’t at our best,” said head coach Scott Hendrix following Friday’s game. “That pressure gave us trouble at quarterback throwing the ball. Their defense ran really well. Normally we can run the toss sweep against a lot of people, but they have so much speed it made it difficult.”

The Patriots scored again late in the second quarter following several Cedartown defensive stands on a 3-yard run following a drive starting in Bulldogs territory as Parson crossed the goal line from 3 yards out.

With less than a minute left on the clock, Cedartown finally got on the board before halftime with Quan Neal jumping up for a 29-yard touchdown pass from Trevon Wofford to put the Bulldogs down by only a score.

Coming out from halftime, the offense got off three plays before Wofford threw an inter- ception caught by Sandy Creek’s Mychael Jackson for a 32-yard return for a touchdown, which was followed up by another score off a turnover.

Cody Totten took it 93 yard on the opening play following a second interception caught at their own 7 yard line to give the Patriots a 3-touchdown advantage.

As time ticked away into the fourth quarter, Sandy Creek’s Jordan Clark got a 4-yard touchdown, which was immediately followed by Cedartown’s final score of the night.

Tony Mathis caught and ran for 90 yards on a kickoff return to cut the lead by three touchdowns, but saw it increase again two plays later as Walker connected with Javan Hawes for a 67 yard pass ending with a run into the end zone.

Cedartown got in two more drives on the night but couldn’t come up with first downs when needed as the Bulldogs fell short on fourth downs.

“We didn’t execute as well,” Hendrix said. “Now we’ve got to beat Chapel Hill to get in.”

The Bulldogs travel this Friday to Douglasville to play against the 4- 4- 1 Panthers in the last regular season game of the season.
