Cedartown boys cross country team heading to state following region meet

- The Coosa Lady Eagles celebrated their win last week over Rockmart The Cedartown Boys and Girls Cross Country teams competed at Douglassvi­lle in the region meet last week. The boys came in fourth and qualified for the state run.

The boys varsity team placed 4th in region with a average time of 18:26 allowing them to advance to the state meet after running over the weekend at Clinton Farms in Douglas County over the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 27 in the Region 5-AAAA race.

This is the second year in a row that head coach Richard Shortt has lead his team to the state meet, according to informatio­n sent in from the team.

Jason Blankenshi­p was one of the top runners in our region, placing 5th with a time of 17:22. Shortly behind him was Elijah Pace, placing 8th with an impressive time of 17:47.

The next Cedartown finisher was Brian Ramos with a time of 18:45, followed by Emmanuel Cornejo with a time of 19:03.

Then, Giovani Garcia finished with a time of 19:10. Senior Alex Berry finished with a time 20:58 and Sam Pollard finished through with a time of 21:03.

The Cedartown cross country girls had some of their personal best times at the region meet.

Holly Duncan place 17th out of 46 girls with a time of 23:45. Alli Hicks and Lacy Smith ran their personal best time with Hicks running 25:33 and Smith with a time of 26:11.

“I am very proud of how all my girls ran at region. It has been a growing season for the girls and I look forward to see what next year has in store,” said head coach Kristen Litle. “Shortt and I are ready for the the boys cross country team to represent Cedartown at the state meet on Nov. 5 in Carrollton.”
