Susan Wills, a nurse in Polk Medical Center’s Emergency Department, was recognized for 45 years of dedicated patient care during Floyd’s Celebration of Service, held January 26.

“Susan sets a great example for everyone she works with,” said Neeve Owen, Pharmacist at Polk Medical Center. “She makes every effort to provide safe, excellent care and does so in a way that is incredibly compassionate and kind.”

Missy Puckett, Professional Development Coordinator at Floyd, worked alongside Wills and cites her as a professional role model.

“Susan is a wonderful caregiver who has been instrumental in my growth as a nurse,” Puckett said. “She’s a pioneer in our area and a real role model for nurses who are just beginning their career.”

Along with Wills, four individuals were honored for 40 years of service: Faye Cummings, Patient Accounting; Karen Foster, Wound Care and Hyperbarics; Denise Nelson, Coordinated Care; and Janice Swinford, The Breast Center at Floyd.

In addition to honoring employees celebrating milestone anniversaries, the annual event also recognizes teams and departments that achieved outstanding results in the previous year.

The Breast Center at Floyd, led by Director Aimee Griffin, received this year’s President’s Award.

Chosen by President and Chief Executive Officer Kurt Stuenkel, the President’s Award is given to an individual, department or team that has contributed significantly to the organization’s strategic initiatives.

“Our staff at The Breast Center has established themselves as top performers in just about every way measureable,” Stuenkel said. “They have taken care that we have historically provided and elevated it to an entirely new and world-class level.”

Stuenkel pointed to The Breast Center’s adoption of emerging technologies, along with a commitment to the community as indicators of success.

“From mobile mammography, which has made breast care available to women who might not otherwise have access, to the addition of newer programs like genetic testing and 3- D mammography, The Breast Center is continually striving to advance patient care,” he said. “Couple that with the innovative Breast Health Advocate program, and it’s easy to see why they’re deserving of this honor.”
