Woman’s remains found in vacant Van Wert house
Unidentified remains are waiting for the results of an autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab after a woman was found dead in a vacant Van Wert home over the weekend.
According to Polk County deputy coroner Marty Robinson, no foul play is suspected at this time in the death. He said that her remains are pending autopsy to help officials figure out her identity and pass on information to her next of kin.
“It appeared the body had been in the house for a l ong t i me, and we couldn’t immediately tell who she was because of the level of decomposition,” he said.
The unidentified woman was officially pronounced dead at 10: 40 a.m. on Jan. 28 by Robinson on the scene at 167 Sycamore St.
Robinson said neighbors found the remains inside the vacant house in the Van Wert area.
