Rockmart secures top spot in region play

The region tournament is ongoing this week as Rockmart’s boys and girls basketball teams wrapped up their regular season on the road over the weekend, with the boys in line for a berth in the state tournament and the girls with a chance to fight to get in.

The 15-8 Jackets finished off the weekend with a loss to Model in a 37-33 makeup game from early January missed due to winter weather. Despite the loss, the Jackets kept their second place spot in Region 7-AA with a 9-5 region record and a 15-8 overall record for the season.

Rockmart left the Rock with a loss on Tuesday, Jan. 31 to kick off the final three-game week of the regular season as the Jackets celebrated Senior Night.

They kept up a close contest with Model but could not keep the intensity up throughout the entire game in the 46- 38 loss.

Morgan Sims earned top shooter status for the night with 12, and Bronson Garner with 11.
