Aragon council to meet this week

Those interested in keeping up with the business of the City of Aragon should show up earlier than normal for their upcoming work session and meeting on Thursday.

City council members will be gathering early at 5:30 p.m. for an extended discussion over garbage service within the city during their upcoming work session being held at city hall.

That’s to be followed by the regular meeting with several i t ems on t he agenda up for discussion and vote.

Those include tabled old business over a comprehens­ive plan for Pittman Park and recreation money remaining i n SPLOST accounts to be used, plus lighting for the walking track at the park.

Other old business includes going back to purchases for the chipper, leaf vacuum machine and welder purchased with money set aside for public works equipment in SPLOST funds as well that were approved for purchase in January, and re-addressing the budget re-alignments voted for approval last month as well.

New business up for considerat­ion includes a potential motion on allowing movement forward on a subdivisio­n within the City of Aragon that was started in past years but never finsihed, and items for spending considerat­ion as well.

A contract for pest control at city hall, and approval for the Pittman Park improvemen­ts are also expected to be up for vote if a plan is presented and approved.

The recreation plan has been table twice in the past months as the council waits for the complet i on of plans by t he Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, who offered to lend their support in the effort of recreation improvemen­ts within the City of Aragon.

Aragon is also looking to surplus their old chipper used by Public Works and place it up for sale, and spend money on making repairs to the community center as well.

The council is also set to vote on new expenditur­e limits for the Century Bank Special Assets Account.
