A Rockmart man died in the emergency room in Paulding County on Monday morning from injuries sustained in a wreck according to Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier.

Brazier said that Jessie Autery, 39, of a Rockmart address, died from massive blunt force trauma injuries sustained in a wreck around 8 a.m. Monday on Highway 113 near the intersection of Knox Mountain Road.

“Investigators with the Rockmart Police Department and the coroner’s office determined the driver ran off the roadway, overcorrected and came back on the road flipping multiple times,” Brazier said.

Autery, the lone fatality and the only one involved in the wreck, was being airlifted by Lifeflight to an Atlanta area hospital when he began to go into what Brazier described as a traumatic arrest and emergency personnel were forced to land at WellStar Paulding hospital in Dallas.

He died in the operating room at 10:05 a.m. Monday.

Brazier said his remains were not transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab since he was the only person involved in the wreck.

He said that deputy coroner Ivan Warner was responsible for the investigation.

Autery’s funeral arrangements are being handled by Gammage Funeral Home, which are scheduled for Friday.
