Polk School District’s nursing bunch under FMC
School Nurses Provide Care for Polk Students
As Polk County students return to class, school nurses will be available to take care of their health needs during the school day.
The Polk County school system has a total of 10 nurses, plus a nurse supervisor and a medical director. Floyd Corporate Health, part of the Floyd health care system, provides and trains the nurses.
“They are there to take care of the needs of the students during the school day,” said Dr. Lyndsay Claroni, medical director of the school nurse program. “They play a role in helping students take needed medications and even help administer flu shots.”
Claroni said school nurses’ duties may range from dealing with an allergic reaction to tracking immunization records.
Greg Teems, interim superintendent for Polk County schools, said the partnership is a win-win situation for his students.
“We know through the partnership the nurses will get the latest up-to-date training and needed equipment to take care of our kids,” Teems said.
