Rockmart Business Alliance planning for coming fall events

- By SEAN WILLIAMS SJ Correspondent

With President Stacey Lovvorn calling the Rockmart Business Alliance meeting to order, the group provided updates on Rockmart's Welcome Video, monthly block party, the city's Riverwalk Festival, the Halloween Festival and more.

RBA revealed that they are hard at work planning the annual Halloween Festival of Treats.

"It's the same location,” said RBA vice-president Brenda Leslie. "Downtown Rockmart on South Marble, East Church down into Seaborne Jones Park.”

The event will be held on Halloween Tuesday from4:30-6:30 p.m. and will include “merchants handing out candy, games, and face painting. There will be a petting zoo, inflatables in the park, and precious paws will have a pet costume contest in front of their store,” shared Leslie.

Zack Thomas of Rockmart's new Chick-fil-A owner, has agreed to sponsor and supply the prizes for the children's costume contest, which will be held in front of the chamber building. RBA promised to share more details during their upcoming September 19 meeting.

During the August meeting last Tuesday, RBA also shared that Rockmart's “Riverwalk Festival will be October 21 in Seaborne Jones Park from 10 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.,” said Leslie.

“There will be a band and lots of arts and crafts.”

Rockmart's Riverwalk is an important part of Rockmart culture that brings the city together for arts and crafts, food, gospel, bluegrass music, kid's attractions, fried pie competitions, various vendors, and more.

Currently, Rockmart Riverwalk is still accepting new arts and crafts and retail vendors. Those interested in setting up shop during the festival should call Jeff Holstein at 770-684-2706.

A standard $ 25 vendor fee is required.

Instead of hosting Rockmart's missed August block party at a later date, RBA announced the monthly shindig would be on hiatus until next month.

While the parties are usually held on the first Friday of each month, August weather gave the city no opportunity to bring out the musicians, vendors, and various attractions that are common to the block parties.

The next block party will be on Sept. 1.

Jeff Holstein reported that the city of Rockmart has taken over development of the welcome center's video, and council member Sherman Ross is lending his help.

The video will highlight the pros of Rockmart to passerby's and visitors who can't decide where to visit first.

Rockmart Business Alliance encourages spending money on locally owned, independent businesses to help unite, grow, and boost the local economy and the well being of citizens. New members are always encouraged to join in on meetings or contribute to the alliance.

RBA is headquartered at 113 S. Marble St., Rockmart. They meet on the third Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise noted, at Rockmart City Hall.
