The Frontier provides family meals off the beaten path

- By SEAN WILLIAMS SJ Correspondent

The Frontier is one of Rockmart's most elusive restaurants. Tucked away at 990 Hutchings Mountain Rd., The Frontier has been serving seafood, steak, hamburgers, and other classic American foods for over 4 decades now.

It originally opened in 1972 and passed between a variety of owners before Greg Lewis acquired the building in 1996.

Since acquiring the restaurant, Lewis has “added only two or three items over the year.”

Steak is still one of the most prominent items on the menu, but The Frontier also offers pizza, burgers, chicken, bread rolls, salads and more.

“Expanding on salmon and shrimp are the big- gest additions,” said Lewis. Seafood is another prominent menu item, but Lewis shared that he would “continue to maintain the menu. We're happy with the business we've got.”

The Frontier is a sitdown restaurant where customers can expect to spend around 15-30 minutes depending on their order.

Waiters or waitresses are present, and there is no specific dress code for the establishment, but customers take caution because The Frontier does not accept any digital currency including debit and credit cards.

Those itching to try the restaurant's food should come prepared with cash. In regards to how much cash a patron should bring,

The Frontier's prices can range anywhere from $5-$12 dollars for a meal, with the average entree cost being around $7.

Despite The Frontier existing on t he back roads of Rockmart, customers can still find the establishment thanks to the vintage decor and classic Coca- Cola sign displayed on top of the building.

“We haven't done much renovating,” said Lewis. “I'm trying to maintain the original character of the place. I added some of the decor but that's it.”

Found inside are signs and knickknacks from the 1900's, wooden, brown walls, and even a parked car lends visual aid to the restaurant.

“We want to keep it as family friendly as possible,” said Lewis.

The Frontier is unique to Rockmart because it has remained the same through several generations of Rockmart citizens and will continue to serve citizens in the same way.

Rockmart children born in 20 years will receive the same experience citizens received 20 years ago.

The unchanging nature of the restaurant helps to build a common culture in Rockmart that spans decades.
