Local landmark to celebrate its 38th birthday in October

- SJ Correspondent

It’s a landmark that people in Polk County use all the time to help people figure out where they are going, but it’s more than just a place where people can remember easily.

Petro’s Pizza, located on Highway 27 South just past where the bypass returns back to the regular roadway, is conveniently located as a landmark. But the restaurant serving up Italian, Greek and American- style food is coming up on a big anniversary in just over a month.

The restaurant will be celebrating its 38th birthday on the first day of October, when in 1979 the restaurant served its first customers.

Petro’s offers both a lunch and a dinner menu. The restaurant’s lunch menu is more compact than it’s dinner menu. Italian-themed foods like homebaked lasagna or spaghetti top the mid-day menu, and chicken coronet, chicken Vienna and grilled chicken are a few of the chicken dishes offered by the establishment.

Hamburgers, steaks, sandwiches, and pizza are also available for afternoon cravings.

Dinner at Petro’s expands the menu tenfold. Available in evenings are a much broader selections of pizza and toppings including grilled chicken Alfredo pizza, 18 additional toppings such as tomato, Green Olives, bacon, and shrimp, and a host of appetizers such as hot wings and potato skins. The joint also adds the “From the Broiler” section which offers broiled ham steak, country fried pork chops, broiled rib eye, Greek chopped sirloin steak, and more.

Seafood lovers are in luck because the store’s evening menu offers various fish fried or broiled including grouper, flounder, tilapia and catfish. Patrons can also order jumbo shrimp, Alaska salmon steak, and stuffed grouper or flounder.

Those looking for a meal on the leaner side can order various salads including grilled or fried chicken salad, Greek salad, shrimp salad, tossed salad, and Italian salad amongst others.

Customers of Petro’s describe the cost range as “being slightly above average,” said frequenter Duane Henley. “I think the average cost for a meal is going to range around maybe $12-$15.”

Petro’s prides itself on being a “family friendly atmosphere,” and though dimly lit can accommodate groups of all sizes.

The restaurant is located at 1785 Buchanan Highway in Cedartown, and the establishment is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

The pizza joint takes reservations and walk-ins, and it also offers take out for customers.

Those with questions can contact the restaurant by calling 770-748-0072 or visit the local landmark pizza joint in person.
