Cedartown remains perfect at home

- TJ Martin makes a big catch in the end zone.

The Cedartown Bulldogs are off to a good start for the 2017 season after notching another win on their belts and finishing a sweep in this year’s Battle of the Borders jamboree.

Cedartown came away from their late Friday night finish last week with a 41-14 win over the Cherokee County Warriors in a offensive effort that 421 yards on the field.

It put the Bulldogs at 2-0 for the season thus far, and they’ll remain in non-conference play until midSeptember.

The second game in a double header at Cedartown Memorial Stadium got to a slow start for the Bulldogs, who only managed a touchdown in the first quarter but then got into a fast tempo and gained a 20-point lead on the Warriors before halftime.

Cedartown’s second quarter pace was set by senior quarterback Trevon Wofford, who threw for three touchdowns and carried it over the goal line once for the Bulldogs.

A pair of Wofford’s passing touchdowns went to Joseph Gibbons, and a third went to TJ Martin in a mid-air catch that was one of the big plays of the night.

Wofford’s night ended with 169 yards in the air off of six completions. The Bulldogs running efforts netted 252 yards of offense on the ground.

Head coach Doyle Kelly was happy with the outcome of last week’s game, but like all coaches Kelly carried high ambitions for his team and still strives for improvement.
