Robinson offers reward for information on stolen Jeep
Polk County Deputy Coroner Marty Robinson is offering a reward for information that can lead to the arrest of those responsible for stealing a Jeep Liberty from his driveway last weekend.
According to Robinson, he and his wife were both gone from their College Street home in Rockmart between 3 and 6 p. m. on Sunday, Aug. 27, when it was discovered that their blue Jeep Liber- ty was missing. After he filed a police report on the theft, Robinson said he went looking for the SUV himself, but to no avail.
“It’s tank was empty, so they had to put gas in it at some point, and I’m not sure how they got inside of it since it was locked,” Robinson said.
Robinson’s Jeep Liberty turned back up overnight when he received a call before midnight on Monday, Aug. 28, that it had been found by the Polk County Fire Department on Hugh Deems Road, stripped and burning on the side of the road.
“They took the engine, the transmission and anything useable from it they could,” Robinson said. “They also tried to remove all the VIN numbers, but we found one I wasn’t even aware of and I was able to match it up with my title, which I had on me.”
Robinson is offering a $500 reward for any information on who stole his Jeep.
“I’m not worried about the money,” Robinson said. “It was the sentimental value that mattered to me.”
He said he bought the Liberty for his mother to drive before she died in 2014, when the SUV returned to him.
Those with information about the vehicle theft can contact Robinson through Facebook, or call the Rockmart Police Department at 770- 6856558.
