Mr. Williams

Mr. Seals Leon Williams, age 76, of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday evening, Sept. 26, 2017.

He was born on Jan. 11, 1941 in Polk County a son of Mr. Aubrey Williams and Mrs. Lizzie Mae Atkins Williams.

He was a United States Veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

For a number of years, Seals had been the Owner and Operator of Owens Bar-B-Que in Cedartown where he served the people of Cedartown and surroundin­g areas for many years.

He was a member of the Caledonia Lodge 121 F&AM and was considered by many as a Jack of all Trades.

He was a lifetime member of the Young’s Grove Baptist Church where he had been active in many areas of the church. For several years he was over the Young’s Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Williams will be remembered for his passion to help take care of others.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Bobbie Norris, Patsy Ray Waits and Wilhelmeni­a Gann.

Mr. Seals Williams is survived by his son and daughter in law, Eric and Lynn Williams; his daughter, Rita Williams Tillmann and Wayne Carnes; a brother and sister in law; Cliff and Betty Williams; sisters, Edna Rogers and Shirlee Barber; his grandchild­ren, Josh Gilliam, Ty Williams, Austin Tillmann, Jesy Tillmann and Blake Williams; a great grandson Logan Gilliam and his special friend and sister in Christ, Sharon JacksonCha­mbers. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The Funeral for Seals Williams were conducted on Friday afternoon, Sept. 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. from the Young’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Parris officiatin­g.

The following gentlemen served as Pallbearer­s: Josh Gilliam, Ty Gilliam, Austin Tillmann, Jesy Tillmann, Joey Norris, Todd Norris, Barry Williams and Greg Barber. Logan Gilliam served as Honorary Pallbearer.

The Williams family received friends on Thursday evening, Sept. 28, 2017 at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Phillips

Mrs. Pearlie Haney Phillips, age 74, of Rockmart, passed away at her home on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017.

She was born in Trion on Feb. 24, 1943 a daughter of the late Charlie Haney and Savilla Chapman Haney.

Mrs. Phillips spent the early years of her life in Felton before moving to Polk County in 1984.

She was a retired respirator­y therapist having worked for Polk General Hospital for twenty five years and later retired from Shell Medical. She loved to work in her flower garden, play cards with her friends and spend time with her grandchild­ren and great grandchild­ren.

Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, five brothers and a step daughter Sharon Briones.

Survivors include her husband, Franklin A. Phillips of Rockmart to whom she was married on July 27, 1996; two daughters: Cheryl Gateley, Lindale and Teresa Smith and her husband Bobby, Cedartown; step daughter, Patricia Hammond and her husband Rick, Spring Hill, Tenn.; eight grandchild­ren; two great grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Smith and Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Justin Carter and Rev. Buddy Gentry officiatin­g. Interment will follow in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearer­s included: Rick Hammond, Junior Adams, Mike Davis, Charles Rayburn, Scott Haney and Chad Gravley.

Mr. Collier

Mr. Terry Grant Collier, age 70 of Cedartown, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017.

He was born on April 8, 1947 in Rome, the son of the late Mr. William Joe Collier and Mrs. Annie Powell Collier.

Mr. Collier was a veteran of the Vietnam War and an active member of Worldview Baptist Church.

Mr. Collier is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon Worthingto­n Collier; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Collier Sanford ( Jeff); son and daughter- in- law, Mark Collier (Tera); sister, Bonnie Brown (Henry); brothers, Joe Collier, Jerry Collier, and David Collier; grandchild­ren, Brandon Cheatwood, Bryson Cheatwood, Glavin Collier, Nate Collier, and Kaylan Sanford. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Collier is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gloria Wallace and Emily Byrd; and brother, Bobby Collier.

The arrangemen­ts for Mr. Terry Grant Collier were conducted on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Barry McCollough, Rev. Jeff Pilgrim and Rev. Doyle Kelley officiatin­g.

Interment followed in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Pilgrim and Mr. Jeff Sanford officiatin­g. Full military rites were conducted by the Brewster-Cleveland Post 86.

The family of Mr. Collier received family and friends on Monday, September 25, 2017 prior to funeral hour at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearer­s: Brandon Cheatwood, Bryson Cheatwood, Glavin Collier, Nate Collier, Jeff Sanford, and Mark Collier.

Mr. Griffith

Mr. David Ronnie Griffith, age 68, of Covington, passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 in McDonough.

He was born in Atlanta on March 19, 1949 a son of the late Otis Griffith and Ruby Shipman Griffith.

Mr. Griffith had been a resident of Covington for the past 25 years moving there from Cobb County. He was a member of the Callie Fuller Baptist Church and a retired painting contractor. Mr. Griffith enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Angie; by two brothers: Robert and Wayne and a sister Grace and her husband Bobby.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Dale Martin Griffith, Covington; two sons: David Griffith, Kennesaw and Billy Underwood, Covington; two sisters: Patricia and Velma Griffith both of Cartersvil­le; four grandchild­ren; nine great grandchild­ren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 25, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the Callie Fuller Baptist Church of Monticello with Rev. Charles Roper officiatin­g.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.
