Mrs. Sutton

Mrs. Debra Elaine Arp Sutton, age 67 of Rockmart passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017.

Mrs. Sutton was born Oct. 1, 1950 in Taylorsville, daughter of the late Rayford Franklin Arp and the late Mildred Marybell Smith Arp. She was a member of Bethyl Crossroads Baptist Church of Taylorsville. Mrs. Sutton enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, shopping, cooking and baking.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Barry Arp and Randy Arp; and a sister, Vickie Bowman.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Alvin Sutton to whom she was married Nov. 19, 1966; son, Alvin Dewayne and his wife Deidra of Cartersville; daughter, Paula Lynn Wilson and her husband Harrison of Rockmart; sisterin-law, Lori Arp of Aragon; brother-inlaw, Ronald Bowman of Rockmart; four grandchildren, Chance and Rebecca Beck, Heather Wilson, Jordan Wilson and Laura Sutton; one great- grandchild, Ella Bridges.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sutton were held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Garrett and Rev. Harrison Wilson officiating. Interment services followed in the family lot of Rockmart Memorial Gardens.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mitchell Rice, Gary Reeves, Jeff Cornwell, Jason Arp, Don Sutton and Everett Sutton.

Honorary pallbearers were Tony Reeves and Chris Bowman.

Mrs. Jones

Mrs. Betty June Jones, 84, of Carrollton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017.

Mrs. Jones was born in Bradenton, Fla., on June 8, 1933, the daughter of the late John Wiley Moon and Lutrelle Bowen Moon.

She was a member of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church for 60 years and Adult Friendship Sunday School Class. Mrs. Jones retired as a receptionist with Carrollton OBYGN.

Survivors include her husband, Franklin D. Jones, daughters and sonsin-law, Brenda and Ronald Lovell of Rockmart, Kathy and Randy Bell of Carrollton, grandsons, Chad (Eileen) Bell and Blake (Hannah) Bell all of Carrollton, great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Maverick, and Charley Bell, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at 4 p.m. from the Carrollton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Patton and Rev. Ken Stephens officiating.

The family received friends at the church in the Gathering Room on Friday evening, Nov. 3, 2017.

Pallbearers were Ronald Lovell, Randy Bell, Blake Bell, Chad Bell, Don Baker, and Clarence Finleyson.

The Adult Friendship Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.

Interment was in Carrollton City Cemetery.

Mr. Dingler

Mr. Darren Todd Dingler, age 49, of Cedartown, passed away on Wednesday morning, Nov. 1, 2017.

Todd was born on Jan. 25, 1968 in Fulton County, the son of Mr. Henry Dingler and Mrs. Mildred Presley Dingler.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Rod Dingler.

Mr. Dingler is survived by his mother, Mildred Dingler; brother, Al Dingler; his sister, Misty Dingler Fuller; niece, Henslee Fuller and nephew, Aaron Cole Dingler. A number of cousins and other relatives also survive.

The Funeral for Todd Dingler was conducted on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 2, 2017 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Litesey Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Slaughter officiating.

Interment followed in the North View Cemetery.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mike Oxenreider, Lonnie Reece, Michael Hall, Eddie Britt, Rodney Johnson and Mark Benefield.

Mrs. Fuqua

Mrs. Dorothy Lavinia Ingle Fuqua, age 77 of Rockmart passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2017.

Mrs. Fuqua was born Dec. 10, 1939 in Rockmart, daughter of the late Edward Ingle and the late Irene Lee Ingle.

She was a graduate of Campbell High School Class of 1957 of Smyrna and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Powder Springs.

Mrs. Fuqua was an insurance agent who enjoyed being with family and watching her grandchildren play sports.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank “Bill” Lonitz; two brothers, Barry Lee Ingle and Randall Edward Ingle.

Survivors include her son, Tony Fuqua of Rockmart; three grandchildren, Tyler Lee Fuqua, Taylor Lee Fuqua and Tayte Sherice Fuqua; and one great- grandchild, Hayden Lee Fuqua.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fuqua were held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Owen (Bud) Davis, Jr. officiating.

Interment services followed in the family lot of Rockmart Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Wolfe

Mrs. Lura McElwee Wolfe, age 89, of Cedartown, passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2017.

She was born in Cedartown on Oct. 6, 1928, a daughter of the late Levi Franklin Jameson and Lillie Thompson Jameson.

Mrs. Wolfe lived all of her life in Cedartown where she was a member of Friendly Baptist Church, and also served as choir director for East View Baptist Church for several years.

She spent her working career in retail for over 40 years. She never met a stranger and was always talking.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: L.C. Jameson, Learon Jameson, Loris Jameson, Lottie Brown, Lillian Witcher and Leo Tarvar.

Survivors include her son, Tim McElwee and his wife Jill; daughter, Adonna Puckett and her husband Gary; six grandchildren: Cory Puckett, Kyle Puckett, Jessie Puckett, Casen McElwee, Brody McElwee and Josh Hunter; two great grandchildren: Gavin Puckett and Shelbee Puckett; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Smith and Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Starnes officiating. Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery with Rev. Bray Allen officiating.

Pallbearers included: Brody McElwee, Cory Puckett, Tony McElwee, Jamie Guice, James Guice and Zach Sanders.

The family received friends Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 1 prior to the funeral hour at the funeral home.

Little Tinleigh Cato

Little Tinleigh GraceAnn Cato, infant daughter of James and Sarah McCain Cato, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 2, 2017, at Floyd Medical Center.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her sister, Taeliegh Jenkins; by her “Nana” Florence McCain; and by a special uncle and aunt, C. J. and Kim Cato and their daughter Bella. Several other family members also survive.

She was preceded in death by her “Popie” Roger Ball.

Funeral services for Tinleigh were held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 5, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. at the graveside of the Mountain Home Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Carla Woodard Wright officiating.

The family received friends at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel Sunday prior to the funeral hour.

Ms. West

Ms. Pamela Joy West, 59, of Cedartown, passed away on Oct. 20, 2017.

She was born on March 3, 1958 in Etowah County, Ala., to the late Mr. Homer Byers Jr. and Mrs. Louise Byers.

Ms. West was educated in the Etowah County school system, was a minister of the gospel and a loving mother.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Ms. Yolanda Burrough, sister, Ms. Sheila Underwood, brother, Mr. Bruce Byers and special niece, Ms. Maria Williams. A special friend, Mr. Carlton Warren and a host of relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Ms. Pamela Joy West were held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 at the Wingfield Funeral Home in Cedartown with the Rev. Terrell M. Shields of Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Rome. Music was provided by Cherish Owens. Internment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

The family of Ms. West wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the many acts of love and kindness shown during their time of bereavement.

Mrs. Smith

Ms. Leona Rae Smith, age 32 of Rome, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017. She was born on August 16, 1985. Ms. Smith is survived by her mother, Fandrick Jane Jolly Smith; siblings and their spouses, Andrea Jane Smith Marangakis (John Marangakis Sr.), Melanie Lisa Smith Hopkins, George Thurston Smith Jr. (Cindy Smith), Toy Michelle Smith Bell (Brad Bell), Danielle Hope Smith Underwood, Elena Wynn Smith Cubillo (Gerardo Hernandez Cubillo), Jason Micah Smith Sr., Maya Jael Smith, and Joshua Paul Smith; fiancé, Dustin James Watson; 10 nieces and nephews and 3 great nieces and great nephews.

Ms. Smith is preceded in death by her father, George Thurston Smith Sr.; brothers-in-law, Melvyn Hopkins and Dean Underwood and niece, Leirein Jael Hayes.

The funeral arrangements for Ms. Leona Rae Smith were conducted on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Mr. Phillip Rodgers officiating. Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery.

The family of Ms. Smith received family and friends on Wednesday evening, Nov. 1, 2017 at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Mr. Thigpen

Mr. James Thigpen, age 84 of Cedar Bluff, Ala., passed away Saturday Oct. 28 at his residence.

Mr. Thigpen was a native of Auburn, Ala., and a graduate of Auburn University and the son of the late James and Euphie Brown Thigpen and was of the Methodist Faith.

He spent his working career in construction equipment in Alabama, Kentucky, Texas and Georgia, along with traveling to many different countries.

Mr. Thigpen retired on Weiss Lake enjoying his hobbies of fishing and hunting. He was an avid Auburn football fan and attended his first game at 6 months old in 1933.

Survivors include wife, Effie Fay Thigpen of Cedar Bluff; son, Franklin Dwight (Jinger) Jolly of Cedar Bluff; daughters, Betsy Foster of Hickory, NC., Kathy (David) Skates of Rome, Ga., Joy (Max) Trowbridge of Bourbon, In. and Terri Canania of Cedartown, Ga.; grandchildren, LeAnne Lucas, Summer Demarro and Rhyley Summerville; great-grandchildren Drew Boynton, Tyler Strickland, Garrett Strickland, Trantham Canania, Rachel Clark, Jameson Demarco, and Mckayden Demarco; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Bethune and Joy McGowen; grandson, Zack Canania.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 2, 2017 at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with John Good officiating. The family received friends prior to the service at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Angel, Jimmy Russell and Larry Easterwood.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the America Cancer Society.

Rev. Boyd

The Rev. William O. Boyd, retired Rector Emeritus of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator in Washington, passed away on Oct. 25, 2017 at the age of 93.

He was born in Brownsville, Tenn., and was married for 48 years to his beloved wife Betty, who preceded him in death in 2002.

Rev. Boyd graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., and then Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va.

He was ordained into the Episcopal Priesthood in 1953 and served parishes in Morristown, Tenn., Cedartown, and Greensboro, as well as in Washington.

He served on a number of diocesan committees and contributed his skills through his ministry to the betterment of God’s kingdom for many years.

Rev. Boyd was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps in the European theater. After his discharge, he was later commissioned as an officer in the Army Reserve, serving as a Chaplain and retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Rev. Boyd was devoted to the support of his family and their interests, particularly his children’s sports, band, and club activities, and Betty’s continual to-do lists.

He was a very active member of the Washington Kiwanis Club. He was a skilled woodworker, and a part of him lives on in the furniture and other projects he made that grace many homes.

He particularly enjoyed living in the Victorian cottage that he and Betty painstakingly restored.

One of his greatest loves was his association with the Church of the Mediator, which he served and led faithfully as Rector for 18 years, and then was blessed to continue to attend until his death.

He was also blessed by the continuing support and love by the town of Washington, and both were better for his having been a resident. Although he is gone in body, his spirit lives on and we have all been blessed by his life well lived.

Rev. Boyd faithfully supported the Episcopal Church of the Mediator and the American Cancer Society, and in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to either of these two institutions.

He is survived by his sister Mary Moore of Hoschton, his son Will (wife Beth) of Spartanburg, S. C. and his daughter Libbet Turner ( husband Rich) of Warner Robins, as well as four grandchildren: Trey Boyd (wife Julie), Graham Boyd (fiancé Emily Pontieri), James Turner, and Simon Turner. He had lived in Washington since 1972.

A funeral with full military honors celebrating the life of William O. Boyd was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at the Church of the Mediator.

Mr. McElwee

On Oct. 26, 2017, Mr. Bobby Gene McElwee Jr. departed his earth body to join his mother Maria Teresa Munoz McElwee nd his sister Viola McElwee in heaven.

Mr. McElwee was born at the Laredo Air Force Base hospital in Laredo, Texas on Feb. 27, 1962.

He worked at Plant Bowen as a INC Technician for 20 years. He had a degree in Industrial Engineering, enjoyed his job and never met a stranger. He could and did converse in a wide range of topics.

Mr. McElwee is survived by his wife Cindy, his daughter Kamila McElwee and Special Friend Nick Deaton, his daughter and son-in-law Bienca and Corey Bowers, his daughters Destiny and Valery, his father Bobby McElwee Sr. and special friend Sherry Champion, his brother and sister-in-law Gary J. and Jennie McElwee, his brother Joseph McElwee, his grandson Dane Bowers and granddaughter Abigail Bowers. He was cremated following his death. A memorial service is being at the historic Van Wert Church at 72 Church St., Rockmart, on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 at 2 p.m.

Mrs. Seabrook

Mrs. Audrey Inez Garrett Seabrook, age 74 of Marietta formerly of Rockmart passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017.

Mrs. Seabrook was born Oct. 27, 1942 in Rockmart, daughter of the late Sidney Garrett and the late Lula Jane Underwood Garrett.

She was a retired employee of the Kendell Corporation.

Mrs. Seabrook loved crocheting, gardening, canning and visiting with family. She loved baseball and football, especially the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons. She also enjoyed drinking coffee and watching soap operas and QVC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Michael Seabrook, Sr. on March 24, 2001; a sister, Lois Presley; and four brothers, Tony Garrett, Jim Garrett, Elmer Garrett and Albert B. “Pick” Garrett.

Survivors included two sons, Mark Stell of Douglasville and Matthew Stell and his wife Michelle of Marietta; a sister, Margie Garrett; five grandchildren, Christina Strickland, Sidney Orlowski, Kaitlyn Stell, Morgan Stell and Garrett Stell; and a great-grandson, Caden Strickland.

A memorial visitation in memory of Mrs. Seabrook was held Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Freeman Harris Funeral Home.
