Bellview Baptist Fall Festival fun for all

- By Sean Williams SJ Correspondent

A dark, stormy evening didn’t stop Bellview Baptist Church from getting into the fall spirit by hosting the festival the group had planned weeks in advance.

Hosted indoors, the church invited any and all to get out of the rain and indulge in candy, a chili cook off, a chance to show off Halloween costumes, games, face painting, and more during the Oct. 28 event.

Bellview’s fall festival was one of many hosted within the county during the Halloween weekend. Undesirable weather forced a few festivals into rescheduling or canceling, but Polk was still filled with tricks and treats for the most part.

One of the most prominent aspects of Bellview’s Oct. 28 festival was the chili cook off. A long line of tables housed several different containers of chili made by church members, and attendees were free to eat to their hearts content. Donation bowls were in front of each chili pot, and those who fancied a certain batch of the food were welcome to donate for the sake of the church and to help the chef win the contest.

“The way we’re gonna decide the winner is by donations,” pastor Justin Carter said. “You don’t have to donate, but put your donation in front of your favorite chili if you’d like to.”

Whoever has the most is the winner. All proceeds earned will go toward the Bellview Baptist Church’s missionary program and sending missionaries to spread the word all over the world.

Younger attendees seemed to be drawn more towards the candy, and the church had plenty of sweets. A candy walk was hosted in one corner of the church’s interior, and other candy could be find lying around tables for the grabbing.

A joyful way for kids to work off the extra candy calories was the group’s bounce house which could be seen being used almost non-stop in one corner, and face painting was available for those reserving the costumes for Halloween day.
