Rockmart band wrapping up season looking back at ’80s

As the marching season slowly winds down to an end for the year 2017, the marching Yellow Jackets leaves this year noted as one of the best shows preformed so far.

With the theme of the show revolved around classic rock hits; the “rock of the ages” show has been one of the most highly acclaimed shows since David Snipes came to be the Head director of for the Rockmart band.

For the band what they do is purely out of love, but with their hard work and dedication to their passion the results that followed was astonishin­g for the Jackets.

In both competitio­ns the band attended the ratings they received were all superior ratings from the judges. The band also had several groups from the band that placed in the competitio­ns as well.

Year after year Rockmart has shown progress in all category’s in a positive way, this does not leave out the band as Snipes has reported much progress in the band throughout the years that he’s lead this band.

“We’ve improved in all aspects this year,” said Snipes, “The horn line is playing stronger, the Percussion has made huge strides, ad the color guard is better too.”

Snipes has acclaimed that the quality he has seen the most is their hard work; this group has reportedly learned the show faster than any group that Snipe’s has ever taught and even has been tackling a harder music book this year.

The groups that have stood out this year and improved are percussion, rifles, and our rookies according to Snipes. The drum line had grown both in numbers and skills having over 20 percussion­ist this year that played some really hard music. The rifles have been really good since band camp with Most of the members being completely new to rifle and was doing some challengin­g routines. Finally our for our rookies that made up majority of the band, The band has more seventh- to ninth- graders than upperclass­men, really stepped up and was a big part of the success of the band this season.

Out of the 130 students that make up the band, the Jackets was fortunate and talented enough to have over 40 of our band members to get the opportunit­y to play in this years Liberty Bowl.

“We’ve enjoyed watching the football team succeed this season.” said Snipes, “We’ve had fun playing and cheering for our team and It’s been fun doing cheers with the cheerleade­rs too. The seasons not over and were ready for more. After the season we focus on concert music and small groups like jazz band. We have no off season.”
