Aragon wraps up business with vacation time decision

Aragon’s final council meeting of 2017 consisted of members welcomi ng newly appointed officials, approving the building of a smaller basketball court, and changing employee’s personal policy for time off.

With many new employees coming aboard at Aragon’s city hall, the council decided to amend the rules for taking sick days, vacation time, and overall leave.

City Clerk Christie Langston presented several different options for the council to choose from, and they eventually decided on an amended third option. According to the new rules, the compromise to option 3 allows for employees to have five sick days per year, but removes employee’s ability to carry over accumulated sick days year to year.

A max of one week of vacation time is allowed to roll over to the following year, and employees earn more vacation time annually the longer they serve.

Employees who have worked for one to five years earn a single week of vacation annually, and employees with six to 10 years of service gain two weeks per year, 11 to 15 years of service nets employees three weeks every year, and 16 years and more gets those with longtime service four weeks of personal time every single year.

The council welcomed newly appointed council member Candace Seiz and financial clerk Adri- ana Barta who were both promptly sworn in during the Dec. 21 meeting.

Seiz joins Amy Causey and Judson Fee as 2017’s new council members, and Barta’s new position will have her handling various financial jobs on a full-time basis. Closing While Aragon is done with meetings for 2017, Mayor Garry Baldwin has called for a special meeting on Jan. 2, 2018 at 6 p.m. to take place at City Hall

“The agenda will be for one specific topic,” Baldwin said. “To select a Mayor Pro-Tem for 2018.”

Spinks- who’s term ends in the coming year- was thanked for his service before the meeting was adjourned.

“Hunter Spinks is the current Mayor Pro-Tem, and his term expires at midnight on Dec. 31, 2017, and I don’t want us going without a legal backup from Jan. 1 until the council meeting on Jan. 18.”
