NJHS in­duct­ing new mem­bers

Stu­dents of Cedar­town Mid­dle School will soon be rec­og­nized for their aca­demic achieve­ments in a spe­cial in­stal­la­tion cer­e­mony be­ing held this week.

Stu­dents at Cedar­town Mid­dle School will be cel­e­brat­ing on Thurs­day night as they are in­ducted into a spe­cial or­ga­ni­za­tion that hon­ors their aca­demic achieve­ments.

The Na­tional Ju­nior Hon­ors So­ci­ety (NJHS) will be in­stalling dozens of new mem­bers to the group dur­ing a cer­e­mony on Thurs­day start­ing at 6 p.m., and friends and fam­ily from the com­mu­nity are in­vited to take part.

NJHS mem­bers take qual­ify to join if they go a full se­mes­ter with a let­ter grade of A in each sub­ject and no be­hav­ior com­plaints on their records, and have to main­tain the A av­er­age in all sub­jects in or­der to re­main a mem­ber.

They also have to com­plete ser­vice projects based, like the school’s Chick- fil- A cal­en­dar sale, class­room sup­plies drive, a Christ­mas toy do­na­tion drive, Christ­mas Carol­ing at lo­cal Nurs­ing Homes, Teacher Ap­pre­ci­a­tion Week Teacher Gifts, and host­ing the CMS Valentine Dance.

Stu­dents are re­warded for par­tic­i­pa­tion and keep­ing up their grades is an out-of-state trip with or with­out their par­ents as chap­er­ones (sev­eral still go with the group, as with all field trips.)

This year, the group is plan­ning a trip to New York, and ro­tate year to year be­tween there and Wash­ing­ton, D.C., and a third ran­dom choice within the United States like Philadel­phia, Bos­ton or Chicago, as ex­am­ples.

The round of in­ductees who are be­ing cel­e­brated on Thurs­day night in­clude, from 8th grade Gra­cie Ball, Ken Lyrica Davis, Bran­don Guz­man, Ron­aysia Mose­ley, Jacy Ty­nall and Keyni Vil­ligran.

7th graders be­ing in­ducted are Sam Arnold, Am­ber Bar­ber, Alan Bar­rera, Brisa Cruz, Mad­di­son East, Macken­zie Edwards, An­drew Gar­cia, Eve­lyn Gon­za­lez, Abbey Howard, Lily Jack­son, Hermene Juarez, Yahir Martinez, Chase Miller, Kad­ince Ox­en­rei­der, Kam­ron Pala­cios, Desli Perez, Yes­sica Perez, Vi­viana Ro­driguez, Grace Shof­s­tahl, Alexus Spur­geon, Alex Vasquez, Chance White, Jaida Wil­liams-Wells and An­drea Young.
