RBA seeks new downtown map

- SJ Correspondent By Sean Williams

The Rockmart Business Alliance (RBA) chose downtown as the subject of their most recent meeting, and with the city’s tourist count increasing each week, the group shared ideas for a new map that could point locals and guests alike to the city’s various downtown attractions.

“I’d love to have different categories,” Now and Then co-owner Tina Lanier said. “Every week, the customers come from out of town and ask where to get antiques and stuff like that. The map can have the different sections of shops listed.”

The hope is to post a new map downtown and also make it available online, the document will likely categorize the different stores based on their products.

Restaurants will be in one category; Retail will be in another category. The document’s key will also highlight important locations such as restrooms and parking lots.

“We need to have red dots to mark the extra parking, and we need to make sure guests can find the public restrooms at the trailhead,” member Rockmart Cultural Arts Center member Cathy Matthews said.

The map is still in the works with members deciding stylistic options and how to distribute the document, but before long passersby will be able to navigate the city’s downtown as if they’re locals.

While the item was tabled, the group is in the process of electing new officers, and locals should expect to see RBA’s new personnel makeup soon.

The RBA is designed to unite, support, and promote. Those interested in taking part in the development and growth of Rockmart and it’s businesses are urged to visit 113 S. Marble St. on the third Tuesday of each month.
