Pea Valley Flyers headlining concert
The Rockmart Cultural Arts Center (RCAC) isn’t done celebrating Rockmart just yet, and patrons can visit the city’s downtown theatre, 116 E. Elm St., on March 3 at 7 p.m. for a concert headlined by the local band, the Pea Valley Flyers.
Tickets are $10 and are purchasable at the door.
Titled “The Music of Our Town,” the concert will feature additional local talents such as Anna Snider, Isaac Streetman, Julie Bell, David Mixon, Brook Swan, Cassy Thaxton, and Drew Collum.
Pea Valley Flyers are known for playing classics from the genres of western swing, traditional country, and 50’s Boogy Woogy. Those interested in the band can find additional details at www.facebook. com/peavalleyflyers.
Founded by Rex Garner, Jon Carleton, David Harper, and Steve Stewart, the band originally got its name because two members were airplane pilots, and a portion of the group happened to live on Pea Ridge Rd.
“We don’t have a studio, we don’t rehearse, we just go at it for our personal enjoyment,” said Garner.
The band is known for playing at various events such as the Robbie Podskoc White benefit concert that raised over $5,000 for Georgia Cancer Support ( GCS) and Cedartown’s Fourth Friday series that invites locals out for a night of fellowship.
“They’re gonna do a lot of music that relates to ‘ Country Road Take Me Home,’ and all that,” RCAC member Cathy Matthews said. “It’s part of our ongoing celebrate the arts through our town. There’s several people you’ll probably recognize.”
The concert is one portion of RCAC’s 2018 event “Celebrating Our Town through the Arts” which recognizes local artists from all different walks of life and craft.
Their works have largely been reflective of the town. From Jan. 15 through Feb. 24, the “Focus on Rockmart” gallery exhibition showcased works by local photographers that captured the town through the lens of a camera.
Through the appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly, the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) sponsors in part RCAC and “Celebrating Our Town through the Arts.”
