Kiwanis club hears from local Thrive Autism Consulting speaker

Mr. John L. Mobbs, age 77 of Esom Hill, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1941 in Rome, the son of the late Ralph Duncan Mobbs and Lela Angeline Nixon Mobbs.

Mr. Mobbs is survived by his wife, Frances McWhorter Mobbs; daughters, Polly Mobbs Hopkins (Stanley) and Pamela Mobbs O’Neal ( Tracy); son, Kevin Lee Mobbs (Selena); grandchild­ren, Kayland Carol Hopkins, Ethan N. O’Neal and Dixie Lela Mobbs; sisters, Margie O’Neal, JoAnn Gable(Billy) and Patricia Cannon (Noel); brothers, Marvin Mobbs (Faye) and Houston (Beatrice) Mobbs; Sister-in-Laws, Bobbie Mobbs, and Irene Welchel, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mobbs is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene Hill, Josephine Ingram and Edith Kines brothers, Harvey Lee Mobbs and Robert J. Mobbs; brothers-in-law Henry O’Neal, Buck Ingram, Herman Hill, Grady Kines, Bobby Early, and Robert Welchel; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Earley.

The funeral arrangemen­ts for Mr. John L. Mobbs were held on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Polk Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Mobbs received family and friends on Saturday evening, Feb. 24, 2018 at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following served as pallbearer­s: Kevin Mobbs, Dixie Lela Mobbs, Ethan N. O’Neal, Stanley Hopkins, Todd Hice and Gerrik Gable.

Honorary pallbearer­s were Mr. and Mrs. Mobbs’ nieces and nephews.

Ms. Connie Sue Robinson Martin, age 71 of Marietta formerly of Rockmart passed away Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018.

Ms. Martin was born Jan. 24, 1947 in Rockmart, daughter of the late Grady Malcolm “Slow” Robinson and the late Myrtle Ray Robinson.

She was a graduate of the Rockmart High School Class of 1965 and attended Coosa Valley Technical College. Ms. Martin was a member of the Roswell Street Baptist Church of Marietta and retired from the Lockheed- Martin Corporatio­n with 43 years of service.

She loved NASCAR racing, being a Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan, and not to forget her beloved Georgia Tech.

She also had a deep love for her family and friends and loved memories of her working days at Lockheed.

Survivors included a son, James “Kevin” Robinson of Marietta; and one granddaugh­ter, Kali Robinson.

A celebratio­n of life for Ms. Martin was held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at 2: 00 p. m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Mr. Tim Hurt officiatin­g.

Eulogies were given by family and friends. Interment services followed in the family lot of Rose Hill Cemetery.

Honorary Escorts were the “Golden Girls.”

Mrs. Flora “Flo” Miller, age 65, of Cedartown passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 after an extended illness.

She was born on July 19, 1952 in Silver City, N.M., to Robert and Angie Chacon McDonald. She and her husband Bucky moved to Cedartown in 1981.

Mrs. Miller served our community for 20 years as a police officer with the City of Cedartown. Flo was hired by Chief Moss as the department’s first female police officer.

Once she retired from the police department she continued her love of helping others while working for the local district attorney’s office as a witness victim advocate.

She and her husband loved to travel with the RV and attend NASCAR races, rodeo events, country music concerts and eating out together in local restaurant­s.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert McDonald; brother, Eddie Joe McDonald; sister, Frances McDonald.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband, “Bucky” Miller, for whom she married Sept. 30, 1978; daughter, Anna F. Pelletier; mother, Angie C. McDonald; brother and sister in law, Robert and Molly McDonald; sisters and brothers in law, Alice Gilbert Lopez and Nor- ma and Dionicio Espinosa. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The service to celebrate the life of Flora Miller will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Smith and Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Trey Stephens and Rev. Clay Horton officiatin­g.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Smith and Miller Funeral Home.

The family has asked that flowers please be omitted and memorial contributi­ons can be made in her memory to either Homestead Hospice of Cartersvil­le or Alzheimer associatio­n

Mrs. Allie Mabel Garmon Pope, age 96 of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018.

She was born on June 23, 1921 in Bluffton, Ala., the daughter of the late Clifton Russell and Electa Mabel Peek Garmon.

At an early age, her mother taught her to play the piano. After her mother’s passing at age 13, Mrs. Pope continued and became a great pianist.

Mrs. Pope is survived by her sister Alma Garmon Jackson (Howard); sister-in-law, Jeanette Knight Garmon; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Mrs. Pope is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hershel Pope; brothers, Carl Garmon, Clinton Garmon (Izora), Herman Garmon ( Annie Lee), Fay Garmon (Ann), Chester Garmon; and her sister Ellie Garmon Voyles (George).

The funeral arrangemen­ts for Mrs. Allie Mabel Garmon Pope were held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Mr. Don Garmon officiatin­g.

Interment followed in the Union Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family of Mrs. Pope received family and friends on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 prior to the funeral hour at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The Cedartown Kiwanis Club welcome special guest speaker Leanne Johnson to their Feb. 23 meeting. Johnson, a native of Cedartown, is founder and owner of Thrive Autism Consulting. The organizati­on’s mission is to provide profession­al, ethical, and individual­ized Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy services for children on the Autism spectrum and to partner with caregivers by providing resources to help them reach their full potential in life. She also heads up Dylan’s Chance, a nonprofit organizati­on that raises money to help local families cope with an Autism diagnosis.

The Cedartown Kiwanis Club meets every Friday at noon at the Cherokee Golf and Country Club.
