Polk Senior 4-H’ers win big
In past days, Polk County has received its share of accolades. Some local students got to add theirs to the list for jobs well done at the District Project Achievement in Eatonton.
Twenty- s even Polk County 4-H’ers traveled to Rock Eagle to compete at their annual Junior and Senior Northwest District Project Achievement, totaling 36 counties in all and more than 700 competitors in total.
For this competition 4-H’ers first compile a record book or portfolio of their work over the past year, including community service and leadership, then prepare a demonstration or speech on a subject of their choice.
With a first place finish, Zoey Myrick took the top honors for her presentation on Textiles and Merchandising, and will move on to State Competition to be held in July. It will mark her fourth trip to the state competition.
Graduating seniors were also recognized at a special banquet, which i ncluded Faith Croker, Dalton Ely, Daniel Haynes, Cheyenne McCollum, Myrick and Kira Peterson.
Also taking part in the event were, from Cedartown Middle School, Anna Prince with a first place win for a presentation in the Physical, Biological & Earth Science category, and Andrew Hollis, who took second for a presentation in Forestry and Wood Science.
Rockmart middle school saw several students take honors. that included a first place win for Anna Haney in Environmental Science, Savannah Harcourt took a second place finish for her presentation on horses, a third place finish for Orion Adair for a Physical, Biological & Earth Science category presentation. Joseph Croker took part with a history presentation, as well as Jeremiah Fennell, who presented in sports.
Cedartown High School saw several take part as well, with Grace Prince earning a third place spot for her presentation on Flowers, Shrubs and Lawns. Additionally, Nytie Govern presented a project on environmental science, Dakota Peterson provided a project on Arts and Crafts, and both Dustin Ward and Makenna Privett, who each providing individual performing arts presentations.
Rockmart High School saw Dalton Ely tie for a third place presentation on Engineering and Mechanics, and Nolan Ensley take third place for a presentation on wildlife and marine sciences. Additional students participating from RHS included Katelynn Borders and Sarah Adair both presenting on performing arts, Robert Fennell for engineering and mechanics, Faith Croker on workforce preparation, Kira Peterson on Huamn Development and Daniel Hayes on sports.
Additionally, Georgia Cyber Academy students Shawna Rocha took first place for Arts, Ezekiel Smith took second for poultry and egg science, Victoria Barrett third for health. Alan Rocha also took part with a photography presentation.
