Polk Senior 4-H’ers win big

In past days, Polk County has received its share of accolades. Some local students got to add theirs to the list for jobs well done at the District Project Achievemen­t in Eatonton.

Twenty- s even Polk County 4-H’ers traveled to Rock Eagle to compete at their annual Junior and Senior Northwest District Project Achievemen­t, totaling 36 counties in all and more than 700 competitor­s in total.

For this competitio­n 4-H’ers first compile a record book or portfolio of their work over the past year, including community service and leadership, then prepare a demonstrat­ion or speech on a subject of their choice.

With a first place finish, Zoey Myrick took the top honors for her presentati­on on Textiles and Merchandis­ing, and will move on to State Competitio­n to be held in July. It will mark her fourth trip to the state competitio­n.

Graduating seniors were also recognized at a special banquet, which i ncluded Faith Croker, Dalton Ely, Daniel Haynes, Cheyenne McCollum, Myrick and Kira Peterson.

Also taking part in the event were, from Cedartown Middle School, Anna Prince with a first place win for a presentati­on in the Physical, Biological & Earth Science category, and Andrew Hollis, who took second for a presentati­on in Forestry and Wood Science.

Rockmart middle school saw several students take honors. that included a first place win for Anna Haney in Environmen­tal Science, Savannah Harcourt took a second place finish for her presentati­on on horses, a third place finish for Orion Adair for a Physical, Biological & Earth Science category presentati­on. Joseph Croker took part with a history presentati­on, as well as Jeremiah Fennell, who presented in sports.

Cedartown High School saw several take part as well, with Grace Prince earning a third place spot for her presentati­on on Flowers, Shrubs and Lawns. Additional­ly, Nytie Govern presented a project on environmen­tal science, Dakota Peterson provided a project on Arts and Crafts, and both Dustin Ward and Makenna Privett, who each providing individual performing arts presentati­ons.

Rockmart High School saw Dalton Ely tie for a third place presentati­on on Engineerin­g and Mechanics, and Nolan Ensley take third place for a presentati­on on wildlife and marine sciences. Additional students participat­ing from RHS included Katelynn Borders and Sarah Adair both presenting on performing arts, Robert Fennell for engineerin­g and mechanics, Faith Croker on workforce preparatio­n, Kira Peterson on Huamn Developmen­t and Daniel Hayes on sports.

Additional­ly, Georgia Cyber Academy students Shawna Rocha took first place for Arts, Ezekiel Smith took second for poultry and egg science, Victoria Barrett third for health. Alan Rocha also took part with a photograph­y presentati­on.
