Bulldogs remain even at mid-season

- From staff reports

The Cedartown Bulldogs are right at . 500 some twelve games into the season as the team, going 2-1 in area play as the team gets ready for region play in baseball.

Head Coach Doyle Kelley’s club stands at 6-6 as region play is set to get underway with a road trip to start the week to LaGrange as 5- AAAA play begins on Tuesday after press time, with two more on the schedule for week’s end.

Region play begins after a good start to last week for the Bulldogs with a road trip to Model ending with a 8-2 win over the Blue Devils.

Cedartown put up four runs in the top of the first inning over Model, then added two runs a piece in the fifth and sixth innings during last week’s win, holding the Blue Devils to just a run in the fourth and seventh innings before the Bulldogs closed out the evening.

They then traveled last Wednesday to face Darlington in a close 6-5 loss to the Tigers. The Tigers fought off Cedartown for seven innings at home Darlington punched in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with a walkoff home run to give Darlington a 6-5 victory.

Cedartown evened the score in the top of the third after the Tigers had a 2- 0 lead, but Darlington pushed across three in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead.

The Bulldogs t hen scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5, which is where the score stood at the end of seven innings, but Darlington’s walk-off home run finished off the evening and sent the Bulldogs home to regroup.

Last Friday, Cedartown did just that with a 5-3 win on the road at Haralson County. The Bulldogs put up a run in the third and two in the fourth, and added another two in the final inning while keeping ahead of the Rebels, who were only able to push a run across in the second for an early lead, and added two more in a comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh.

Now with an even record

After the Tuesday trip to LaGrange, Cedartown hosts Troup County on Thursday, then hits the road again for a trip to Central Carroll on Friday. They’ll be back this coming Tuesday, March 20, to host Cartersville in region play.
