Jackets seeking alumni for College Wall of Fame
♦ AD Barry Williams wants to honor former athletes who went on to next level
Were you a Yellow Jacket and played college sports?
Athletic Director Barry Williams wants to hear from you, and get a picture.
He’s working on a plan to have a College Wall of Fame for Rockmart graduates up before the start of the 2018-19 school year to help inspire youth who play sports for the Jackets and also want to achieve a career past graduation to push forward for their dreams.
Williams is asking that anyone who played a sport at Rockmart High School since it opened in 1912 and both graduated from both high school and college to participate by sending in pictures.
Specifically, he’s looking for shots of players in their college uniform to hang up.
Williams said he already has a few participants who have offered up photographs to use, but he needs more. His hopes
are that he can have a whole collection ready to hang up before the start of school on Aug. 3.
Anyone who meets the requirements and wants
to participate can contact Williams at Rockmart High at 770-684-5432, or to e-mail him at bwilliams@polk.k12.ga.us.
By honoring those who have gone through both high school and college athletics, his hopes are as well to reconnect with Yellow Jackets who have gone on to
bigger and better things, and potentially provide advice to students who want to achieve the same goals.
This past year, Rockmart saw eight of the graduating seniors earn scholarships to play at the next level. Those included a Cross Country scholarship for Allie Sproull to Emanuel
College, Madison Davis in basketball to Truett McConnell, two softball scholarships for Kelsea Elrod and Taylor Camp, a trio of football players signed that included Cade Holder, Jay Hinkle and Ridge Blackwell, and Emily Gashon signed a soccer scholarship at the tail end of the school year.
