Start of the school year means new lane changes

Top: Ad­di­tional turn­ing lane was added to the east­bound in­ter­sec­tion on Nathan Dean Park­way at High­way 113 ahead of the start of the school year, meant as a safety mea­sure for trav­el­ers headed to Rock­mart Mid­dle and High Schools ac­cord­ing to Po­lice Chief Keith Sor­rells. He said the change came about af­ter DOT no­ticed in­creased traf­fic dur­ing peak hours, and on home game nights for a va­ri­ety of sports that backs up traf­fic when driv­ers are kept wait­ing to turn left for more than one light cy­cle. Above: Part of an in­ter­sec­tion at Nathan Dean Park­way where driv­ers used to turn left to­ward busi­nesses on both side of the high­way was closed off as DOT of­fi­cials an­nounced they planned to do in 2017. Driv­ers can still turn right at the in­ter­sec­tion off the di­vided four lane.
