Holiday donations needed for Toys for Tots

The holiday season is one of the most expensive times of the year, but between numerous charities and fundraisers, giving and receiving in Polk has never been easier.

Toys for Tots is an organization that offers toys and holiday gifts to those in need, and low income and unemployed families are likely to receive something.

Anyone interested can both apply or donate at toysfortots.org.

A total of 548 million toys have been distributed to 251 million children since the program’s creation in 1947, and many Polk children are included in that number.

Greater Rome Toys for Tots is the provider for citizens in Cedartown, Rockmart, Rome, and Summerville, and The Exchange Club of Rome is the Local Coordinating Organization.

Those looking to volunteer or help can do so until December 23, but the final toy collection date is scheduled for Dec. 15.

Toys for Tots is operated by the United States Marine Corps Reserve and was founded by reservist Major Bill Hendricks.
