Bulldogs see mixed results at holiday tournament

- Staff reports

In the first round of the Georgia Vinyl and Thread Rockmart Christmas Tournament last Thursday afternoon, the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs were able to down the Allatoona Lady Buccaneers and move on Friday and faced down a loss to Grayson before they took on Rockmart for a second time in seven days.

The Lady Bulldogs sat at 6-2 at press time after their Friday loss 85-57 to a highlyranked Lady Rams team, and were set to move on to face the Lady Jackets in a consolation round game in the tournament.

The Cedartown boys dropped a tough matchup to Cass 69-62 in the opening round of the Georgia Vinyl and Thread Rockmart Christmas Tournament, then won a close 59-57 match-up against Bremen before they faced Thomson on Saturday after press time.

The tournament matchups put the Bulldogs at 6-4 thus far for the season heading into press time.

It came after a break where Cedartown and Rockmart’s game was cut short due to a fight between Bulldogs and Jackets players that initially the GHSA sought to suspend both teams for two games, but then decided to reverse themselves and only suspend players specifically involved between the two teams.

Both teams get a break in the season for the holiday week before going back to business and starting the region schedule against Cartersville on Jan. 4. Look in next week’s edition for more on how Cedartown fared in the final day of the tournament and for what’s ahead for the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs heading into region play.
