Lady Bulldogs back in action Friday

Following an ugly 20-point loss to their rival Rockmart Lady Jackets before the holiday break, the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs are looking to bounce back.

For Cedartown, every goal Coach Eddie Gambrell laid before them in the preseason is still attainable. The 6-3 Lady Bulldogs still have a chance to perform well in region play and clinch a spot in the state playoffs, so they still have a lot to play for.

Their next chance for redemption will come on Friday, Jan. 4. The Lady Bulldogs host the Cartersville Lady Purple Hurricanes. Cartersville’s girls are 6-4 on the season as of press time over the weekend.

The Lady Canes have had some impressive wins couple with some rough losses.

Their highlights of the season so far include a 14 point win versus Adairsville, a 12 point win at Woodland, and an 8 point win at Armuchee. However, they also have lost by 18 at North Paulding, by 11 to Calhoun, and by 6 to Paulding County- the latter of which is a 1-11 team that Cedartown defeated by 32 points.

Last season, Cedartown’s girls swept Cartersville’s girls in two games. The Lady Dawgs won the opening matchup 41-40 and then beat the Lady Canes again 54-32.

The 2017-18 Lady Canes finished 8-16 overall, winning only 2 games in region play.

Cartersville’s girls have not beaten Cedartown’s girls since January 20, 2017, where the 10-15 Lady Canes beat the 6-17 Lady Bulldogs by 22 at home. Cedartown will look to extend their two-game winning streak over Cartersville in their home matchup on Friday.

The girls game begins at 6 pm, with the boys game slated to start at 7:30 at Cedartown High School.
