Rockmart teams back in action this week

♦ Hiatus after holiday tournament ends with region game, JV tournament

The Rockmart basketball teams will be back on the court this week after a short hiatus for the holidays.

To start the new year, the junior varsity and varsity teams both have a busy schedule with a full week of upcoming games.

Starting today (Wednesday for our Tuesday readers,) both the boys and girls JV teams will be participat­ing in a JV-only tournament at Coosa High School.

After Round 1 of the tournament on Wednesday, both teams will possibly play again on Thursday for Round 2 and on Friday for the Championsh­ip Round of the tournament.

While the JV teams battle at Coosa, the Varsity Yellow Jackets will start by hosting region opponent Pepperell at

home on Thursday, Jan. 3. The girls will take the court at 4 p.m. with the boys following at 5:30 p.m.

The next night, the Jackets will make a trip to Armuchee for a Friday night 7-AA region game.

The JV girls will play first at 4:30 p.m. before the Varsity girls play at 6 p.m. and the Varsity boys at 7:30 p.m., depending on the outcome of the Coosa tournament for JV.

On Saturday, the Varsity teams will be traveling to Christian Heritage in Dalton.

The girls will play an early game at 4 p.m. with the boys following at 5:30 p.m.

Next week, Rockmart will be hosting Coosa at home on Jan. 8 for another 7-AA region game. The JV girls will play at 4:30 p.m. before the Varsity girls play at 6 p.m. and the Varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.

Rockmart will also be hosting Cedartown later next week.

Look for success as Rockmart heads into the second half of their basketball season. The Varsity Yellow Jackets currently holds an overall record of 2-6 (1-0 7-AA). The Lady Jackets are sit at 3-5 (0-1 7-AA) as of press time.
