Bulldogs snap skid against Central
The Cedartown Bulldogs were able to finally bust out and break their losing streak before the weekend was over, earning a much needed win in region play.
By just a single point, the Bulldogs came out on top of the Chapel Hill Panthers at home in a 53-52 finish, which finally snapped a loss streak that extended through last Tuesday. The win cut the five game streak short as the Bulldogs were headed into another region game Saturday at Cartersville.
Sandy Creek came into the game the heavy favorites and quickly showed the praise they have earned from analysts over the state is well deserved by opening a 27-4 lead over Cedartown in the first period. The blowout was in full effect as the first half drew to a close, with the Patriots leading 48-20.
It would not get any better for the Bulldog faithful who made the long drive to Tyrone, Georgia, for the midweek matchup. Even though Sandy Creek put in backups in the second half of the game, they continued to score at will on Cedartown, cumulating in a 49-point victory for the 15-3 Patriots.
Jeremiah Johnson was the only Bulldog in double-digits scoring, finishing with 10 points and 4 rebounds. Seniors Elijah Pace and Zah Frazier added 6 and 5 points respectively. Coach Benjie Frazier allowed many reserve players to get meaningful playing time in the game, including freshmen Deandre Stevenson and Ronald Knight.
The Bulldogs, who sat at 8-10 overall and 2-4 in Region 5-4A at press time, were at the bottom of the standings in a three-way tie with Central and LaGrange.
They had LaGrange coming up Tuesday after press time, Central at home on Friday, and then Coosa on Saturday before a road trip to play Troup County on Jan. 29.
Of additional note, the Bulldogs were playing the Purple Hurricanes on Cartersville’s Pink Out Night.
