State Board of Worker’s Com­pen­sa­tion to hold a March meet­ing in Cartersvil­le

The Hon­or­able Frank R. McKay, Chair­man of the State Board of Work­ers’ Com­pen­sa­tion, along with Board Di­rec­tors, Hon­or­able Ben­jamin J. Vin­son and Hon­or­able Terry H. Chas­tain, and Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor Delece A. Brooks, will visit se­lect cities through­out Ge­or­gia as part of the 2019 Re­gional Ed­u­ca­tional Se­ries.

Un­der their lead­er­ship, the Board will host five sem­i­nars pro­vid­ing valu­able in­for­ma­tion for those im­pacted by the Ge­or­gia work­ers’ com­pen­sa­tion sys­tem in­clud­ing em­ploy­ers, those self-in­sured, hu­man re­source and risk man­agers, claims ad­justers, re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion spe­cial­ists, med­i­cal ser­vice providers, work­ers’ com­pen­sa­tion at­tor­neys, par­ale­gals and other sys­tem par­tic­i­pants.

The first date of their tour in­cludes a stop in Cartersvil­le on March 20, with ad­di­tional dates in­clud­ing one in New­nan on March 28, Val­dosta on April 11, Lawrencevi­lle on April 17 and Sa­van­nah on May 2.

The 2019 pro­gram will in­clude pre­sen­ta­tions re­gard­ing re­cent de­vel­op­ments in leg­is­la­tion, Board Rules, and case law along with ICMS II and EDI up­dates. A panel with claimants’ and de­fense coun­sel and em­ployer/in­surer rep­re­sen­ta­tives will dis­cuss ways to save costs by us­ing safety pro­grams, in­ves­ti­ga­tion, the Posted Panel, de­fenses to claims such as will­ful mis­con­duct, id­io­pathic and egress and ingress, and dif­fi­cult in­juries such as repet­i­tive mo­tion, stress, and ag­gra­va­tion of pre-ex­ist­ing con­di­tions.

A sec­ond panel will­ful ad­dress ex­pe­dited med­i­cal treat­ment, re­turn to suit­able work, su­per­ven­ing and su­per­added in­juries, change in con­di­tion, and set­tle­ment. Fi­nally, the sem­i­nar will en­cour­age lively au­di­ence par­tic­i­pa­tion in a script writ­ing com­pe­ti­tion re­gard­ing var­i­ous work­ers’ com­pen­sa­tion scenes, is­sues, and facts to pre­vail be­fore the Ad­min­is­tra­tive Law Judge and earn a chance to win the cov­eted “Y’al­ly­wood” award.

This ac­tiv­ity has been sub­mit­ted to AAOHN for ap­proval to award con­tact hours.
