If you’ve got money, gas and time to burn, there’s an event coming up that’s right up your alley.

The annual Dixie Highway 90-mile Yard Sale, founded in 2006, follows the path of the original Dixie Highway from Marietta to Ringgold, Georgia.

From June 7 through June 9, communities all along the 90-mile path will offer items of every kind imaginable to adventurous bargain hunters along the route.

The southernmost point on the trail is the Marietta Museum of History, 1 Depot Street, near Marietta Square, where volunteers will have items ranging from old books to historical artifacts that don’t fit into the museum’s collection.

“Sometimes, people will give us things and they don’t pertain to our mission,” said museum director Jan Galt. “They don’t pertain to Cobb County or Marietta history. … If we can’t use it in our collection, we strive to find a more appropriate home for it, but if that is something we are unable to do, the things that were never put into our collection, we sell.”

Galt said all the money the museum raises in the sale will go directly toward maintaining its collection.

Museum collection manager Christa McCay said the museum has been participating in the yard sale for about five years, and it always attracts a large crowd. The event coincides with the June Art Walk on the Square, which leads even more people to the museum.

“Within that time period, we get around 500 people coming in and shopping,” she said. “Everyone is always glad to see we’re offering something they can take home and treasure. … We get people from all the way in Ringgold and even beyond.”

McCay said shoppers from as far as Minnesota visited the museum last year.
