WHAT ABOUT IVERMECTIN?
The drug ivermectin is approved in the u.S. to treat or prevent parasites in animals. For humans, ivermectin tablets are approved at very specific doses to treat some parasitic worms. In response to reports that people have used ivermectin to treat or prevent CoVId-19, redmond region internal medicine physician dr. megan White said while studies have been done on the effectiveness of the drug on CoVId-19 they are all inconclusive and it is not recommended.
White explained that ivermectin is used commonly in subtropical or tropical climates to treat people with underlying parasitic infections. doctors in those areas use the drug as a preemptive treatment in patients with CoVId-19 since the steroids used to counter the virus would also cause the parasites to become active.
