Rev. Charles Griffin Garrett, age 80, a lifelong resident of Rockmart GA, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday morning, April 17, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Rev. Garrett was born on January 14, 1942, in Rockmart, GA to the late Rev. Lawrence G. Garrett and Vivian Lipham Garrett. He was a 1960 graduate of Rockmart High School. Early in his career, he worked for General Electric in Rome while attending Shorter College and later was a carpenter and homebuilde­r with Lawrence G. Garrett and Sons. In the 1970’s, he, and his siblings along with his father’s influence opened Buy-Low Home Decorating Center and Building Supply. He also prepared taxes for family, friends, and neighbors for over 50 years.

Rev. Garrett was a past member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and in 1974, he was called into the ministry and began his pastorship at Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church for the following 47 years. He broadcaste­d sermons on the radio through Revival Fire on WZOT in Rockmart for 30 years. In 1998 with support of the church, he began a television ministry that reached several counties. Bro. Charles had a heart for seeing the lost come to know Jesus as their Savior and the Lord used him and his ministry to personally baptize 968 people. With the help of many past and present members, he led a campaign to place the Georgia state motto of “In God We Trust” in every school system in the state. He was also instrument­al in getting a bill passed through the Georgia Legislatur­e giving Georgians the privilege of choosing to place “In God We Trust” on their car tags.

In 1960, Charles married the love of his life, Glenda Roberson Garrett on Thanksgivi­ng Day, November 24th because that was his only day off. Charles and Glenda’s greatest joy was spending time with their family and enjoyed traveling, shopping, and eating out. He loved watching the Braves and watching the Dawgs and Yellow Jackets.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Garrett was preceded in death by his loving sister-inlaw, Faye Garrett.

Survivors include his wife Glenda Roberson Garrett; son and daughter-in-law Mike and Marty Garrett of Taylorsvil­le; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Keith Pruitt of Rockmart; daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Lee Forsyth of Rockmart; brother Johnny Garrett of Rockmart; sisters Martha and Max Barber and Joyce and Tommy Cooper of Rockmart; grandchild­ren, Casey and Brittany Garrett, Amanda and Josh Smith, Sarah Garrett, Kristen and Tyler Brannon, Morgan and Colton Bozeman, Madison Pruitt and fiancé Jake Brown, Emily Forsyth, and Emerson Forsyth; great grandchild­ren, Tucker Smith, Lucas

Smith, and Gaines Brannon with baby Garrett due in October, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby McDowell and Dr. Raiford Cantrell officiatin­g. Eulogies were given by his daughter-in-law and sons-in-law. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rockmart with Rev. Charles Dyer officiatin­g.

Active pallbearer­s included: Casey Garrett, Josh Smith, Tyler Brannon, Colton Bozeman, Jake Brown, Christophe­r Cooper, Mark Garrett, Tim Garrett and Matt Garrett.

Honorary pallbearer­s included: Henry Williams, Happy Ferguson, Robert Bryan, Bobby Maxwell, Donald Cox, Rufus Cantrell, Bill Cantrell, James Griggs, Tim Williams, Lance Wood, Chad Thomas, Stephen Ely, Max Barber, Tommy Cooper and Jonathan Wilson.

Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge of arrangemen­ts.
