Local students earn degrees from Shorter University

Shorter University held its 2023 commenceme­nt exercises on Thursday, May 4, in the Winthrop-King Centre on Shorter’s Rome campus. Students who received their degrees during the 2022-2023 academic year included many from Polk County.

From Aragon: Abigail Mae Godfrey, Bachelor of Science in Interdisci­plinary Studies; and Lucas James Queen, Bachelor of Arts in History Education.

From Cedartown: Olivia Nicole Cornwell, Bachelor of Science in Interdisci­plinary Studies; Emilee Allyce Kelley, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education; Owen Bradley Lewis, Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies; Brooks Vann Moore, Bachelor of Business Administra­tion in Sport Management;

Andrea Paige Ridgeway, Bachelor of Science in Nursing; and Ava Tillmann Sanders, Master of Management.

From Rockmart: Hailee Madison Brand, Bachelor of Science in Psychology; Estrellita Christina Luttrell, Bachelor of Business Administra­tion in General Business; Jasmine Nicole McGreggor, Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Special Education; Jonathan David Suppes, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education; Brandi Nicole Wigley, Bachelor of Science in Human Services; and Roshmel Dequan Young, Master of Business Administra­tion.

MERCER UNIVERSITY

Mercer University recently announced the President’s List and Dean’s List for the spring 2023 semester. Inclusion on these lists requires students to meet rigorous GPA standards specific to the college or school within the University.

The following Cedartown students earned a place on the lists:

Emma Atkins, sophomore, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, President’s List; Tysen Dougherty, senior, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dean’s List; Megan Fachisther­s, junior, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, President’s List; and Kaitlyn Puckett, senior, School of Engineerin­g, President’s List.

GEORGIA SOUTHWESTE­RN

Zykarius Harshaw,of Aragon, made the spring 2023 President’s List at Georgia Southweste­rn State University and was among 627 students recognized for scholastic achievemen­t.

To be eligible for the President’s List, a student must earn a semester GPA of 4.0 and take a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Georgia Southweste­rn State University, located in Americus, is a public, four-year unit of the University System of Georgia with approximat­ely 3,000 students.

GADSDEN STATE

Jessica Parker, of Rockmart, made the spring 2023 semester President’s List at Gadsden State

Community College, announced by President Kathy Murphy. Fulltime students who earn a semester grade point average of 4.0 (with all A’s) and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours of college-level work are named to the President’s List.

LAGRANGE COLLEGE

Tyler Rowland, of Rockmart, was recently named to the LaGrange College spring semester Vice President of Academic Affairs’ List. To be eligible for this honor, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.6 while taking a minimum course load of 12 hours.

A four-year liberal arts and sciences college affiliated with the United Methodist Church, LaGrange offers more than 50 areas of study with an emphasis on global engagement and service.
